Call for beta testers!

Posted on Monday 8 January 2007

GMobileSync 1.3 will be ready for beta testing tonight (January 8th, 2007). I need a few people who are willing to test out the two way synchronization functionality and report back their findings.

Conditions to test:

  • Sync when an event exists only on Google Calendar. Make sure it gets copied to PocketOutlook correctly.
  • Sync when an event exists only in PocketOutlook. Make sure it gets copied to Google Calendar correctly.
  • Sync when an event exists on Google Calendar and in PocketOutlook but the Google Calendar event is the newest. The Google event should be copied to PocketOutlook.
  • Sync when an event exists on Google Calendar and in PocketOutlook but the PocketOutlook event is the newest. The PocketOutlook event should be copied to Google Calendar.
  • Sync when an event exists on Google Calendar and in PocketOutlook and both events have been changed independently of each other (without a sync). In this case, Google Calendar will prevail and overwrite the PocketOutlook instance of the event. (Yes, this will be an option in the future.)

Appointment data that will trigger a change:

  • Subject (title)
  • Body (description)
  • Start Time
  • Start Date
  • End Time
  • End Date
  • Location
  • Adding or removing Participants (recipients)
  • All-day event status

I have tested all of this as much as I could today. Two-way synchronization is such a tricky feature that Nicole and I really want to make sure it’s perfect for everyone. In fact, there is even a flowchart to prove it!

Flowchart for GMobileSync

I recommend creating a new Google Calendar account and messing around with that. Also, backup your PocketOutlook data to your computer. That’s what I did so that I could keep adding and removing appointments without worrying about my real data. It’s also easier to keep track of appointments that are named things like “Test 1″ and “Test 2.” When you’re done testing, you can just delete the new Google Calendar account that you created.

If you’re interested in helping out with the beta test then leave a comment here. I’ll send you an email with a link to download the installer.

    Hello,

I am interested in testing the beta version. Also, I live in a timezone that is GMT+5.5. Gmobile sync 1.2 did not support 30 miniute intervals in timezone adjustments. I am eager to know if this will be supported. Without this, what Gmobile sync updates is always half hour ahead or behind the Google calendar event.

    thank you.

    Hi,
I’d like try the newest version.
Last days I have tested 1.2 and I found 1 minor bug (I suppose than the program can’t wok with complex password because I couldn’t login with =1qwerty password [the standard test complex password ‘1qwerty also].
bug 2 (minor or medium) when I have clicked while sync was active the program said ‘cannot connect because bad connection settings’.

What’s multiple calendar support? Is it support some calendars per 1 account, some calendars + google national holidays per 1 account or support some calendars for some accounts? It’s planning in 1.5.
I use some calendars and holidays per 1 account.

hi, i’ve been looking for a way to sync my outlook, google calendar, my mac, and my phone as I’d like to use and have everything available everywhere. So that one all my events are available conveniently no matter what I’m using or doing or where I am.
I’ve got a tmobile dash, and I think gmobilesync will be perfect for being the hotbed to keep all my calendars in sync. Currently, using a calendar is a hassle since i have to check the two I use most.
i’d really like to test out the beta and try syncing everything together using my phone.
    I’m looking forward to v1.3!

Thank you everybody for offering to help beta test!

The beta testers for GMobileSync 1.3 have been selected. We do not need any more participants at this time.

Look for GMobileSync 1.3 Release to be available for download in the next week or so.

    Again, thank you! :-)
