GMobileSync 1.1

Posted on Tuesday 12 December 2006

GMobileSync has moved to version 1.1 with a few new features. You can download the latest version of GMobileSync here.

New Features

  • Location data from Google Calendar is now stored in PocketOutlook. Google Calendar supports multiple locations while PocketOutlook only supports one. All locations get concatenated into a single field separated by commas.
  • Having friends has never been so cool. All participants (guests) on Google Calendar events are invited to the event in PocketOutlook as well. Each guest has her name and email address added to the PocketOutlook event.
  • A shortcut to GMobileSync is now added under the Start Menu for easy access.

Bug Fixes

  • I removed the calendar.ico file that came with the original installer and saved some space. It turns out that the icon is embedded into the application and not needed separately.

Don’t forget that you must have the .NET 2.0 Compact Framework installed on your Mobile 5.0 device to use GMobileSync. There are different versions of the Framework for SmartPhones and Windows CE. If you have questions about installation, please reference the GMobileSync Installation Guide.

Awesome app. Downloaded the prog and .net to my MDA via wireless internet. Worked in seconds. Amazing. Was wondering if you were going to try to sync the other way as well. It would be cool to ad appts in my phone then to later sync them to my Google Cal.

Congrats again.. I will use this all the time.

    Thanks, Bellevino!

I am going to try and get synchronization to work in the other direction. Now that it goes one way, I find myself wanting it to sync back with Google as well!

Good luck with the other direction (that would put the icing on the cake for sure!)

After playing with it more.. I was wondering if it was possible to sync more than one cal. In google I have cals for me (which syncs right now), my girlfriends scheduel, and football scheduel.
Might be a bit overboard.. but I thought I would ask if this is possible with the current release.

    Congrats again… Bellevino

Awesome program…just one complaint, it’s only syncing with one of my calendars on google, not all of them. Am I missing something or is it supposed to do this? Thanks.

    Hi Steve,

GMobileSync will only sync one calendar right now. If this is a feature that a lot of people are interested in, I could certainly add it.

    Thanks for the compliments everyone!

Thanks for the speedy reply! If you could implement that, GMobileSync would be perfect!
Thanks again for this great program.

Hey, I’m having a bit of trouble getting this app running (Cingular 8525 smartphone). The application loads, but generates errors when trying to download the events (I’ve checked the internet connection and the credentials multiple times). For me seeing multiple calendars is more of a need than a feature - I have calendar events sorted into catagories by placing them into separate calendars. this also allows me to share specific catagories with specific people instead of my whole calendar. I hope it’s the next feature you work on.

Again, great work. And I look forward to new releases.
All my smartphone friends are using it now.

    Eric,

Is there a certain bug for location data? It’s being synced over, but it would appear twice, like AirportAirport.

Another bug is the parsing of end-line character. The charcter’s not parsed properly, esp. in the Description field. Everything appears as one line on Pocket Calendar after the sync.

BTW, do you accept donations? I believe a lot of us would be willing to donate some to support and encourage you a little in the development of this awesome program.

Ooops! There is a bug with the Location field. It is doubled up! With Google Calendar there is a possibility of multiple locations so I am looping through all of the possibilities… twice :)

I’ll fix it tonight. Thank you for reporting that!

    Darth,

I am going to add some different error handing in GMobileSync. That should help diagnose the problem. Before making a connection to Google Calendar, I’ll make sure that the phone has a network connection. That should help weed some issues out. Also, are you using your full email address at Gmail.com as your username?

    Uzyn,

I’ve thought about adding a donation link. Thanks for your kind compliments and comments on how GMobileSync could be better! Perhaps I will add some method of donating this weekend so that anyone who feels GMobileSync is worth it can help the cause. Everyone’s continued support and comments is what has kept me going so far! :-)

    Eric,

Great work so far! I’d love to see Gmobilesync be able to show multiple calendars - if you add that feature, I’d donate in a heartbeat!

    Thanks…
