I just got a Windows Mobile 5.0 SmartPhone from Cingular! It’s the Samsung Blackjack and I must say, I love it so far. The only qualm that I have with Windows Mobile is the lack of utilities to sync Google Calendar with PocketOutlook (the calendar system of Windows Mobile).

Okay, that’s not entirely true. There are applications to sync Google Calendar with your SmartPhone. My real problem was, I don’t want to install Outlook. It seemed like every program I found to move Google Calendar events to PocketOutlook required Outlook to be installed on a desktop computer with ActiveSync. I don’t use Outlook, so why would I want to install it?
There were a few other options to installing Outlook as well. One was a website that provided the synchronization services through their system. That all seemed fine and I almost went that way — except, I have a problem with putting my Google Account credentials into a third-party website. I use GMail and GCalendar for everything so if they magically lost my credentials to an enterprising hacker… I would be in a lot of trouble.
The only other available option was to write my own software to sync Google Calendar with PocketOutlook. And so the adventure begins!
